Why you should NOT vote for a Democrat in November
I figured I might as well start off the semester with something not too controversial – yeah right. By the way, I hope everyone is enjoying the global warming outside.
OK, that’s enough tomfoolery, so let’s get down to business. I don’t know how many of you have been following the presidential primary process thus far. It can get a bit overwhelming for someone who considers themselves a political novice, but for a dork like me, this is a good time.
I want to focus on the Democrat side because I think that race has become such a complete joke and everyone needs to know it. First of all, more hoopla has been made about the two major candidates because of their race and gender than because of their political positions.
Now, I admit that it is fascinating that for the first time in the history of this country we have people who legitimately could be president who are not white males. It’s a good story. But my beef is that it has overshadowed how disastrous for America it would be if a Democrat gets elected later this year. Allow me to explain.
Let’s start with Iraq. For the Democrats, it is a race to surrender with the winner being who can hand a victory to the enemy first. All of their major candidates want to get U.S. troops out of Iraq within a year of their entrance into the White House. John Edwards said he will get all troops out and put response teams in Kuwait in case any problems erupt in Iraq. But, Edwards is a nit-wit and should not be taken seriously on any issue. Usually I try to refrain from ad hominem attack, but Edwards just asks for it.
Anyways, to my knowledge, not one Democratic candidate has been asked in a debate about the success of the surge strategy implemented last year by the president, which has reduced violence significantly in Iraq. Not only are civilian casualties down over there, but U.S. deaths have also fallen dramatically. December had the second lowest total of U.S. casualties since the war began, and it’s no coincidence. But the Democrats will never acknowledge any progress by our military in Iraq because it is not politically expedient for them to do so, even though it would be the right thing to do. Republican presidential candidate John McCain said that he would rather lose an election than lose a war, it’s too bad the Democrats couldn’t be that patriotic.
Now let’s discuss the economy. If a Democrat is elected in November, they are going to raise your taxes and you can take that to the bank, pun intended. They will say they only want to roll back tax cuts on the rich but do not believe them. The economy has been slowing as of late and if it continues, having the government take more money away from the consumer (you) would only compound the problem.
Another way you know that Democrats want to raise your taxes is every time they mention those famous words “universal healthcare.” I don’t think many Americans understand how expensive it would be to give health insurance to 300 million Americans. If you want an idea go check out how much we spend on Medicare every year and multiply that by about eight.
Finally, let’s discuss national security. Many Americans have become complicit since we have not been attacked since 9/11, and the Democrat Party wants to undue all of the gains we have made over the last seven years when it comes to protecting the homeland.
Things like the Patriot Act, wiretapping, Guantanamo and other crucial anti-terror tools must continue as the war against Islamic extremism has not ended. The major Democratic candidates are also rarely asked about what they plan to do to protect this country. I believe it is because they are clueless and the sympathetic media gives them a pass on this sensitive issue as they desperately want a Democrat elected in November.
Let me be clear, I am not suggesting not voting for a Democrat simply because they are a Democrat. I am saying that their positions on the issues, those few which they have actually enunciated, are a recipe for disaster in the post 9/11 world. America needs to continue to exude a position of strength in the world. We are Earth’s only superpower and we need to act like it after George W. Bush is gone. We need leaders who are more worried about the future of this nation, not debating about who has the better personality or who is less racist.
