Bradsjournal: Democrats are a silly bunch
The modern Democrat Party has caught an infection of sorts that has caused them to grab defeat from the hands of victory many times in recent history. And yet again, history seems to be preparing to repeat itself in 2008. Most political people, myself included, believe that ‘08 should be a Democratic landslide.
But numerous recent embarrassments by Democrats have put their inevitability in serious jeopardy. Let’s recap the last month and have a little look-see at exactly what I am talking about.
The first major problem for the Democrats came when the media exposed Barack Obama’s pastor and spiritual advisor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, of preaching hatred towards America and racism against white people from the pulpit of his church in Chicago. Obama was slow to come out and condemn what Wright said, and only did so when pressure, from pretty much everybody mounted to the point where something had to be done.
So what did King Barack do to put out the fire of the “pastor disaster”? He did what he does best – he gave a speech. Despite the speech, if Obama does go on to get the Democrat nomination, you can bet that the remarks of Wright will be a pivotal issue and the Republicans will do everything they can to exploit it, and rightfully so.
Next comes my girl Hillary Clinton who said on St. Patrick’s Day that during a trip to Bosnia in 1996 she and her daughter came under fire from snipers as they arrived. If true, that means that Hillary is one tough cookie.
However, one must only look at the video footage of the First Lady arriving in Bosnia to see that not a single bullet was fired as she met military personnel and others. Hillary has since said that she misspoke about the incident and chalked up the verbal faux pas to her being human and making a mistake. I’d call it more of a bold face lie – but that’s just me.
Another humiliation for the Democrats came when New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer got busted for apparently enjoying the company of prostitutes while on the job. Not only that, federal wiretaps allegedly have Spitzer discussing his most recent rendezvous which took place in Washington ,D.C. on the day before Valentines Day. Word has it that the very wealthy Spitzer flew his paid-for-lover to D.C. from New York – in coach. What a guy.
To add insult to injury for the people of the Empire State, their new governor, Democrat David Patterson, admitted after he was sworn in that he too had many extra-marital affairs and even confessed to doing cocaine. Thanks to all of these wonderful blunders, the polls indicate that many independent voters have begun to embrace John McCain’s candidacy. While the Democrats bicker with one another, McCain has been making important speeches and traveling the world to make himself look much more presidential.
If I were McCain, I would point simply to the mess that is the Democrat primary systems as proof that the opposite party is unfit to lead. I mean, if the Democrats cannot even do this right, what makes you think they can effectively run this country?
As each day goes by, it seems more and more likely that Obama and Clinton will take this fight late into the summer, potentially even to the Democratic Convention which would be disaterous. Not that I am complaining. In a perfect world, superdelegates will decide to back Hillary for president which would basically end the Democratic Party as we know it. Funny, I think I had a dream like that once.
In a great irony, the Democratic Party is going to let party insiders and elites decide their nomination instead of the will of the people. How incredibly undemocratic of them.
