THE CARROLL NEWS: Women’s lacrosse struggles while men play waiting game Women’s lacrosse struggles while men play waiting game ================================================================================ Tim Ertle on 17 April, 2008 03:00:00 The John Carroll University women’s lacrosse team’s difficult season continued as the Blue Streaks went 0-4 over the weekend, falling to Ohio University, Ohio State, Kentucky, and Dayton. JCU currently sits at 0-10. While they have not seen the results on the field, the women continue to work hard.  “We practice hard,” said junior Caitlin Overdorf. “We only get so much gym time and it’s tough to take what we do in the gym and have it translate onto the playing field.” Overdorf put this season into perspective.  “It’s really frustrating for us as a team,” she said. “We work hard and then we don’t always see results. We’re a young team with girls that haven’t played lacrosse for too long, but with the experience they are gaining, we look to be competitive next year.” Before the season concludes, the team will close out the 2008 season this weekend at nearby Notre Dame College. As for the men’s team, they have an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs after a tough loss to Slippery Rock. Losses earlier in the season to Kentucky and Cincinnati may destroy any hope of the Blue Streaks qualifying for the postseason. JCU had a successful weekend, running off four straight wins before falling to Slippery Rock. JCU won their four games by a combined score of 40-10, while also winning through a forefit. In the Slippery Rock game, the Blue Streaks managed to net just three goals, well below their 7.9 goals per game average. Freshman Pat Durkin said the loss to Slippery Rock was a difficult one.  “We played well all weekend,” he said. “But then to lose the game that had playoff implications was a tough pill to swallow. We still have an outside chance at a wild card so all we can do is continue to work hard and hope that things fall our way.” The Blue Streaks will be back in action this weekend in Columbus to participate in their conference tournament.
