Blue Streaks qualify for postseason: JCU baseball and softball teams advance to conference tournaments
After this weekend, the regular season will officially be over for both baseball and softball. The top four teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference advance to the conference tournament. This year both the John Carroll University baseball and softball teams have had terrific regular seasons that have advanced them into the postseason. JCU is the only institution to send a team to both tournaments.
That's what See said: Why I’m the poet laureate of John Carroll University
For those of you who haven’t read my column before: I’m kind of a big deal. As the veteran columnist for the award-winning Carroll News (and I’m still a few finals away from junior status), I have quite a bit of literary clout. Taking this into account, I decided I could help another JCU publication, The Carroll Review, by contributing my name and fame.
Taliban closing in on Islamabad
The Pakistani government launched a military operation against Taliban militants earlier this week. The effort is largely seen as a response to pressure from the Obama administration to take a firm stance against the growing insurgency in Pakistan.

Time to hit the book… Facebook

Such and Szuch: Forget sleep – it’s college, sleep is over-rated
A friend of mine always says, “You’ll sleep when you’re dead.” And he’s right; life is too short to spend all of your time in bed, when there are more important things to do. But, sometimes you reach a point where you’re just so tired that simple tasks seem like the biggest endeavors you’ll ever face. I’ve reached that point.
‘The Soloist’ underperforms despite big names
Heading into the theatre as a huge fan of Robert Downey, Jr., Jamie Foxx and director Joe Wright, “The Soloist” was primed for a masterpiece. Unfortunately, the film was not the work of art most expected. It wasn’t a complete bomb or waste of time; however, it was less than pleasing.
Reading, writing and avoiding arithmetic
When I was asked to write this column, I decided I didn’t want it to be a standard senior response to the end of the year, discussing my lack of job or goodbyes to the University. Instead, I figured it’s more practical to tell you about one of my favorite places on campus: the Writing Center.
To-go boxes to cost money
Aramark dining services will be implementing a cost of 50 cents per to-go box starting in the Fall semester. The reasoning behind the decision is that it will bring financial, social and environmental benefits. The boxes that will be used next year will be more environmentally friendly.
Charging a fee for the boxes is a…
MAXimum Exposure: Holding Relay where we want
It is time to put our foot down to University Heights. Every year we have to move indoors during our Relay because of a city code that says we cannot be making such a ruckus so late at night. Well, John Carroll, it’s time to break a few rules.
Defying Obama, Democrats press for hearings on CIA torture allegations

Un-Fair to break contract
John Carroll University is a strong supporter of Fair Trade products, including Fair Trade coffee. The University’s catering service, Aramark, is under contract to serve only Fair Trade coffee at any event that they cater. However, over the past few months it has been found out that Aramark has been using Folgers coffee.
Will Call
While sitting next to my roommate, attempting to think of a personal philosophy, I began to take an introspective look at my life.
Sure that’s probably not the most masculine thing I could say, but hey, it beats taking eight whipped cream pies to the face.
In the near future, we will all be forced…

World Wide Web: The Iranian threat
Iran may soon have the technology to build a nuclear weapon. Israel claims that Iran has already reached that point, and has threatened to attack its nuclear facilities if no action is taken. But before we start a potential nuclear war, we should ask ourselves three questions. First of all, why does Iran want nuclear weapons? Secondly, is a nuclear Iran more dangerous than a non-nuclear Iran? And, if so, what are our possible courses of action?
