Do you ever flip through magazines wishing you could afford the designer clothes on the page with a college budget?

Target is helping to make that dream become a reality. On Tuesday, Sept. 13, the store will be releasing their new line, Missoni by Target, to the public.

In the past, Target has collaborated with other fashion houses and designers, including Mulberry, Rodarte, and Zac Posen to provide affordable designer looks.

However, the Missoni collection will be the largest one that Target has offered so far.

Missoni is an Italian-based fashion company that has been in business since 1953.

The line is famous for their use of knitwear, as well as the preference for geometrical stripes and big floral prints.

Celebrities like Nicole Richie, Cate Blanchett and Rachel Zoe are fans of the collection, and those who enjoy a jet-set life have particularly loved the line over the years.

The line that Missoni has created for Target is a staggering 400-piece collection, with clothes for men, women, girls and babies, as well as dishware, bedding, luggage, and a four-piece sectional.

The prices of products range from $2.99 to $599.99, with most of the items averaging less than $40, according to the Target website.

The inspiration for the clothing of this collection is based on the 60s Italian aesthetic, focusing on bold prints and colors.

There is also an emphasis on sweaters, dresses and skirts. While there is men’s clothing, the quantity is small, and includes sweaters and ties.

The colors of the collection are diverse, with patterns focusing on blues, blacks, purples and corals. Designer label lovers will enjoy the handbags, headscarves, and other accessories. The line even includes rain boots, an early buy for the spring season.

Sophomore Gina Torek is excited for the line.

“I admire designers who can make these collections for frugal shoppers, so everyone can be apart of high end design.” However, some of the male students are wishing for more variety for the men’s clothing.

“From the selection that is available for men, I am unable to fully appreciate and select from the same variety that the women are able to,” said senior Enzo Miceli.

The Missoni line for Target is available Sept. 13 through Oct. 22, and depending on availability, some pieces from the collection will be extended until early December on Target.com.

Looking for a source of winter entertainment this holiday season? You can find it at Indians Snow Days.

Progressive Field opened its doors to the public on Nov. 26 with its “Snopening” day, providing the Cleveland community with an opportunity to create new memories and experience a winter wonderland.

Indians Snow Days is the first event of its kind in Major League Baseball and is currently in the first year of its existence.

The idea for Indians Snow Days was sparked several years ago by the NHL’s Winter Classic.

The Snow Days idea has taken several different forms, but the current idea came from the vision of Executive VP of Business Dennis Lehman, and VP of Ballpark Operations Jim Folk, this past January.

“We created Indians Snow Days at Progressive Field to be the destination for winter entertainment in Northeast Ohio,” said Indians Vice President of Public Relations Bob DiBiasio.

“This first-of-its-kind event will give downtown Cleveland another marquee attraction this winter that will be sure to create memories for families, friends and co-workers.”

“In addition to bringing people downtown, we have hired employees to staff the event and have utilized several vendors from the Northeast Ohio region to assist us with the event ranging from scaffolding to signage to landscaping to electrical engineers,” said Robert Campbell, Cleveland Indians PR worker.

Each day, the Indians will blanket Progressive Field with 150 tons of snow, which will result in more than 5,000 tons of snow over the course of the event.

There are seven different events available at Snow Days. General admission price is $5, and to use the ice skating rink and the snow tubing is $10 and $20 respectively.

The Batterhorn (Snow Tubing), presented by RTA is a 10-lane snow tubing hill on top of Time Warner Cable Bleachers.

There are eight adult lanes and two children’s lanes starting at the top of the outfield wall. Snow Days has two ice skating rinks.

The Frozen Mile is a quarter of a mile ice skating path around the outfield. The design of the Frozen Mile is the first type of ice skating rink in the United States.

There is also the Rookie Rink, for less-experienced skaters in the corner of the left field.

Young kids who aren’t quite up for ice skating or snow tubing, can participate in the Slider’s Snow Zone, which allows kids to just play in the snow in deep left field.

The Winter Haven is a walking trail through the outfield, having winter lights and a 3,000 square foot snow maze.

If you just want to watch the festivities, you can sit in the Home Run Porch, which has a fire pit and concessions, or sit by a heater in the Indians Home Dugout.

Snow Days expects to have a few thousand attendees every day.

It will be running until Jan. 2, 2011, and will be open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a whole new look coming into the 2010-2011 season.

And no, it is not the lack of some guy who decided to take his “talents to South Beach.” It is the reinvention of the Cavs’ uniform and logo.

The team started off its season with a win over the Celtics, and they looked pretty snappy when they walked onto the court with a new team and a new uniform to match.

The new threads aren’t a completely new transformation for the team. The uniforms are actually a throw back to the uniforms of the 70s and early 80s.

The team has always been associated with the “wine and gold,” and the new uniforms are bringing that back with full force. The logo and wordmark designs will remain the same, but the color changes, to a deeper wine and brighter gold.

The new home jerseys have “Cavaliers” emblazoned across the chest, while the away jerseys have “Cleveland” on the front. On both uniforms, special details make them distinctive.

The Cavaliers trademark statement: “All for One. One for All” is printed along the back of the inner-collar of the crew neck, and the Cavaliers secondary logo “C-sword” appears on both sides of the short.

A reason for switching the uniform colors? The fans. According to the Cavaliers’ website, the fans over the past few years have responded well to the older uniforms, and the Cavs decided to give them what they wanted.

“The response from our fans related to our classic uniforms and merchandise has been tremendous over the last several seasons, especially our original wine and gold color mix items.

As a result, we’re very excited to bring the spirit of the original expression of ‘wine and gold’ into our brand full-time for the future,” said Tracy Marek, the Cavaliers senior vice president of marketing.

When asking JCU students what they thought about the new uniforms, there were mixed answers.

Some had no idea that the team had received new uniforms, and some had noticed but didn’t care either way.

A few students had some opinions about the new uniform changes, and all of them had positive things to say.

“These jerseys are much needed for this hurting franchise, especially after the travesty that happened this past summer,” said junior Nabil Madhun. “The fans, franchise and city needed a change after what transpired.”

Even students from outside of Cleveland seem to admire the makeover of the NBA team’s wardrobe.

“I’m not from Cleveland but I love the old-school look of the new uniforms,” said freshman Sean Hockensmith.

The whole team dynamic has changed; most of the recognizable players and coaches have taken their talents away, and the team is coming into this season with a clean slate.

Madhun said this “clean slate” is a reason not to jump on purchasing the jerseys.

“I think fans have embraced the new look,” he said. “As a consumer and fan though, it is not feasible to buy the new jersey at this time. No one on the roster has a guaranteed spot, and the name on the back of jersey one buys could end up being on a different team the very next day.”

However, he said that this is not indicative of their appreciation for the new style.

“Still, I do not expect sales of the jerseys to indicate the fans satisfaction with them,” he said.

The new uniforms help to present a changed team to the public and show the NBA world that the Cavs can move on from losing “he who shall not be named” and be a bigger and better team on the court than they ever were before.

On Saturday, Sept. 11, the first Cleveland Garlic Festival will take place in Shaker Square. The North Union Farmers Market is hosting the festival. All of the proceeds will support the NUFM’s mission of having people buy more locally grown foods and “spread the love of garlic” to the Cleveland area.

The NUFM rules the local food industry of Northeast Ohio and takes part in promoting the product’s various benefits by pairing certified producers with consumers through a network of markets.

According to Clevelandgarlicfestival.org, the NUFM has four goals: “supply the community with the freshest, most nutritious food – harvested ripe and brought fresh to market, support growth and incubate over 300 small businesses in Northeast Ohio, stimulate the local economy by keeping money in our communities and keep Ohio land producing food and supporting families, which saves farms from destruction.”

The festival will kick off at 1 p.m. and will continue until Sunday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m.-.

Musicians will be playing throughout the day, and there will be diverse vendors from local restaurants, such as Bistro 185, La Campagna, and Coquette Patisserie.

There will also be other local venders such as MZ Beads, and local artists that will be selling their work at the festival.

During the festival, grill-offs will feature local chefs, local meat, and local garlic.

There will also be two bake-offs: one for garlic cookies and brownies, and one for vegetarians.

An event called The Server Rodeo where Cleveland’s top servers compete to see who has the best skills, will also take place.

All of the food that weekend will be garlic-themed, with attendees tasting everything from ice cream to oysters.

“This event showcases the tremendous culinary talent here in Northeast Ohio,” said Donita Anderson, executive director of the North Union Farmers’ Market.

Anderson hopes it is a festival that will become a success and end up being a staple in Cleveland for many years to come.

“Many people are not aware that Ohio garlic has a singular special quality because of the soil. This means greater anti-viral health and most importantly, the best garlic in the world,” said Anderson.
