It was an impressive showing for the John Carroll University Women’s Outdoor Track and Field team at the All-Ohio Division III Championships.

Aided by five different Blue Streaks earning individual top 10 finishes, JCU finished 11th as a team in the field of 19 programs in attendance.

History was made when the 4 X 400 relay team of freshman Ashura Powell, junior Joy Nyaanga, junior Alyssa Biedron, and sophomore Noelle Saluan earned a fourth place finish with a time of 3:59. 26, setting a new program record for JCU. Relay success continued for the Blue Streaks when the 4 X 100 relay team of senior Emily Jenkins, Powell, Nyaanga, and sophomore Jessica Swisher put their mark on John Carroll program history. The quartet finished in a new record time of 49.16, which was good for the sixth spot in the event.

Individual efforts proved to be important for the Blue Streaks down the stretch. Jenkins grabbed a third place finish in the 100 meter dash with a finishing time of 12.71. Senior Martha Bill took seventh in the 10,000 meter run, posting a time of 43:14.06. The steeplechase event proved to be where JCU would shine in the afternoon’s events when two Blue Streaks finished in the top 10. Sophomore Erin Kiley crossed the line in the sixth positions with a time of 11: 47.64, while junior Christine Smith finished in eighth spot at 11:53.89.

JCU placed one spot higher than they did the previous year at the All-Ohio Division III Championships. An 11th place finish placed JCU just about Case Western Reserve University.
