The John Carroll University men’s cross country team finished seventh at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, Nov. 14 in Terre Haute, Indiana. Sophomore Elliot Thorkelson lead the pack with another top-20 finish.
The Blue Streaks had a trio of racers that contributed to their top ten finish this weekend. Thorkelson(25:51), sophomore Matt Andrews (26.05) and senior Pat O’Brien (26:15) all finished in the top-40 for the Blue Streaks. The Trio finished 20th, 29th, 39th, respectively. This is the second time Thorkelson has finished in the top 35 this season.
JCU finished seventh overall, with their top-five runners posting an average time of 26:14.
Senior Andrew Snyder and junior Gus Kazek both crossed the finish nearly simultaneously. Snyder finished with a time of 26:29.6, while Kazek finish a half a second later with a time of 26:30.1. Senior Mike Hurley was the sixth Blue Streak to finish.
Wabash College, which claimed the regional title, and Allegheny College earned automatic team bids to the NCAA National Championship by placing as the top two teams. The remaining teams are eligible to qualify as part of the at-large pool.
This year’s finish marks the fifth consecutive season in which JCU has placed a top ten finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional — the best stretch of finishes in program history.
