Women’s Golf Concludes Season With High Hopes for the Future

April 30th, 2015

On a young team comprised of three freshmen, two sophomores and a junior, winning does not come easy. John Carroll University women’s golf spent most of the 2015 season finding their groove and slowly growing behind the leadership of Junior Jackie Weisenberger who finished the season with a team best average of 88. Their final outing at the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament showed just how much potential this team has for the future.

On Sunday April 26, the Blue Streaks hit the course for the final time this season and were led by Freshman Michele Whiteleather who finished with a total of 175, placing fourth overall in the OAC. In regards to her play, Whiteleather said, “It was a great feeling to have placed so well in the field. There are a lot of good players and I felt pretty good about my game.”

Whiteleather’s performance helped JCU place sixth overall at the tournament. One of JCU’s freshmen, Nicolette Bowersock, believes this is only the beginning of a strong run this young team can make in the next couple years.

“With a year under our belts, us rising sophomores know what to expect, which I feel will make us better prepared for what is to come. The freshman coming in will add players to our team which is an area we lacked in this year, especially during the spring season”, said Bowersock.
