JCU Women’s track team finishes seventh at the OAC Championship

John Carroll University women’s track and field had many good performances that landed them seventh place at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, which were held at Mount Union Stadium at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.


Mount Union won the event with 199 points, the runner up was Otterbein University with 123.5. JCU scored 66.50 points.


It was a great day for the Blue Streak’s relay team finishing with All-AOC honors in both 4x 100 and 4 x 400. The quartet of Gab Leon, Joy Nyaanga, Emmy Jenkins, and Sara Martinko finished third and set school records with a time of 49.55. In the final race of the meet, Alyssa Biedron, Nyaanga, Sara Martink, and Haley Turner covered the 1600 meters in 4:05.03 to take third place.


Many of the athletes that scored in the relays also excelled in other events.. Turner picked up all-conference honors as an individual by placing third in the 00-meter run. In the 400-meter dash, Biedron was fifth (59.99), and Nyaanga was seventh (1.01.83).


The 5000-meter run was a big event for the Blue Streaks, it was an event where they brought in many points. Erin Kiley placed fourth in 18:32.98, Schasia Modrzynski was sixth in 18:37.26, and Ang Bucci finished eighth in 18:50.75.


Other track point scorers included Becky Rohwer, who was sixth in the 1,500 (4:51.43) and seventh in the 800 (2:24.23), and Jessie Swisher, who finished fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:07.86)


Madeline Sweeney was the top scorer in her field events for the Blue Streaks, as she tied for eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters.
