John Carroll University men’s golf team took the trip to The College of Wooster to participate in the Gatorade Collegiate Golf Tournament this past weekend. On Saturday and Sunday the men of JCU golf put together an impressive showing coming in second place out of seven teams. They finished with a final score of 596 over the weekend, which was only 13 off from the lead and tournament winner Mount Union. Rounding out the rest of the tournament was Muskingum University in third, College of Wooster (4th), Baldwin Wallace University (5th), Hiram College (6th), and Westminster (Pa.) College (7th).
The star of the weekend was JCU’s own freshman Andrew Britton.
He started day two one stroke back of the lead and dominantly finished Sunday with a three stroke lead over Mount Union’s Mitch Johnson and Nick Popely. Ultimately putting up the 142 was good enough to earn a -2 and first place finish.
Not only did Britton provide an excellent performance, sophomore Mark Chrzanowski and senior Casey Vancil both had top 15 finishes. Chrzanowski tied for ninth after shooting a 148 over the weekend and Vancil shot a 151 to earn a tie for 15th.
The final two golfers for JCU, junior Nick Boccio and freshman John Schnur, ended the tournament shooting a 155 (23rd place) and a 159 (29th) respectively.
