Consistent play helps men’s golf claim fourth at OAC championships

April 30th, 2014

The John Carroll University Men’s golf team claimed fourth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at the River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio from April 25-27.

Thanks to a second place overall finish from sophomore Casey Vancil, the Blue Streaks were able to hold off conference rivals in the University of Mount Union and Ohio Northern University and finish in the top half of the competition.

Vancil, who earned All-OAC honors for his performance, turned in the strongest performance of the day for JCU as he was within one playoff hole victory from being the OAC champion. While falling short of the title, Vancil still finished with an impressive score of 301 over four rounds, including a final round of 74 strokes.

Senior Alex DiPalma and freshman Mark Chrzanowski both totaled 317 strokes over the three-day span, tying for 19th place overall.

Sophomores Nick Boccio and (320 strokes, 24th place) and Dominic Patella (330 strokes, 33rd place) also competed for the Blue and Gold, contributing strong performances to aid JCU in their final match of the season.

Consistent golfing was the key for the Blue Streaks over the whole weekend as the team turned in rounds of 312, 309, 313 and 311 strokes for an overall score of 1245.
