March 29th, 2007

Junior Katie Mahoney was elected editor in chief of The Carroll News for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Mahoney began at the CN her freshman year as a staff assistant and from there moved to head the World News section.

Her sophomore year she moved to the Op/Ed section, this time as the editor. She currently is managing editor, dealing with the day-to-day operations of the paper.

“Katie has done a great job as managing editor both with the behind the scenes editing and with the people issues that come with these types of positions,” said current Editor in Chief Krystina McGiffin.

“I am confident she will not only maintain the high standard The Carroll News has set, but will also take it to the next level,” she said.

Mahoney, who will take over as editor next issue, was elected on March 22.

Mahoney said, “I look forward to working with next year’s staff to build upon the success The Carroll News has had.”

Mahoney, a communications major from Greensburg, Pennsylvania native, hopes to upgrade much of the technology used by the staff.
